Preview: Dark Side of the Moon: The Fulldome Experience
Fans of Pink Floyd and psychedelia will soon be able to experience a visual exploration of Dark Side Of The Moon in full 5.1 surround sound courtesy of At-Bristol science centre. Screenings will take place throughout June and July in the most glittering of venues, the planetarium.
For the duration of the album (a fabulous 45 minutes), viewers can expect an impressive visual array that is truly mesmerizing and immersive.
You are transported up and down through the void and will sometimes find yourself spinning through abstract patterns and sculptural landscapes. You may at one point find yourself caught in a spirograph-like form, and at other times what could be the inside of a lava lamp, or the top of a rainbow.
is needed now More than ever
If geometric abstractions and an android-imagined serenity are your bag, the visuals for Us And Them offer a particularly good example.
You can also expect to see less abstract representations of objects such as clocks (of course!), giant guitars, and Ancient Egypt to name a few. Whether you actually lived through the 70s or like me, have a sitcom-manufactured nostalgia, this is a psychedelic trip with none of the associated illegality or paranoia.
So, if you are a Pink Floyd fan aged 16 or over and are seeking some flotation-tank-like escapism for an evening (and aren’t fazed by a spot of pixelation), definitely head over to At-Bristol’s planetarium – there are enough beautiful moments over the course of the show to make it worth a pop.
Visitors will be able to explore At-Bristol’s Space Gallery and grab a drink at the bar before each show. Shows will take place on June 28 and July 5, 12 and 19, with shows at 7pm and 8.15pm for each event.
