Queer Arts Exchange host a party with a difference
Social Muscle Club won’t have you feeling the burn or tearing your Lycra – it’s a brand new party launched by the Bristol-Berlin Queer Arts Exchange.
The event brings together the diversity of Bristol’s LGBT+ communities with the aim of forming strong and supportive networks. It’s a special celebration that unites performance, music, dance and community – and organisers want guests to bring a little bit extra.

Social Muscle Club offers a chance for guests to socialise and build networks within the LGBT+ community
“What would a party be without gifts,” co-organiser Chris Gylee says, “and we want guest to bring along something surprising – a favourite book, a song, a story, some advice, a portrait, a dance move, a stage dive”.
is needed now More than ever
“We play a simple game where each person offers a gift, and asks for something they would like to receive. It might be an object but might be help with something, like moving a sofa – so there’s no need to bring anything with you,” Chris adds.

The event aims to encourage people of all ages, ethnic backgrounds and identities to build strong communities in Bristol and beyond
The event wants to include people of all ages and backgrounds and organisers hope that the unique blend entertainment and networking will bring something new to the LGBT+ community in Bristol.
“We think queer spaces are just as important as they ever were,” Chris says, “and, in some ways, even more important. Society has changed, and life has got a lot easier for many LGB people. But many of us still face huge challenges and exclusion isn’t as easily overcome.”

Organised by the Bristol-Berlin Arts Exchange, Social Muscle Club will bring together an eclectic array of performers
Dressing up is encouraged: “Come dressed to the nines. It’s an opportunity not to be missed.”
The event is being organised in collaboration with Pride Without Borders, an LGBT+ group that supports LGBT+ asylum seekers.
Social Muscle Club is an international organisation with active chapters in Berlin, Bristol, Basel and Vienna. Bristol-Berlin Queer Arts Exchange facilitates exchange and development for queer identifying artists between the two home cities and will bring a fantastic spectrum of performers to the event.
With its international links, Social Media Club aims to build global bridges. The event is set to return in April and May – Chris says: “We need solidarity more than ever.”
Social Muscle Club takes place on Sunday, March 4 at 7.00pm at the Trinity Centre. Tickets are £10 and are available via the website.
