Review: Imagine That Presents Gore Texas and Adam & Elvis, Exchange

By Issy Packer  Wednesday Feb 23, 2022

Imagine That, well known for their horsebox located at Hannover place, have been hosting gigs at different venues across the city for as long as I can remember.

Their latest gig offering was held at the Exchange and with beer-soaked hands and a neon orange wristband wrapped around my wrist, we made our way to the basement stage to take in the first band of the night.

The first performance came from Gore Texas with their impressive debut live performance. Gore Texas owned the small stage with one song bleeding into the next, never giving the audience time to relax before starting another furore.

Their ferocious guitar riffs and angry lyrics were interspersed with drum solos and an array of sound effects. By the time the lead singer walked off the stage, we were left wondering what we had just watched and how soon could we watch it again.

Following their lead, the second and final act of the night was the five-piece band hailing from Reading, Adam & Elvis, who offered a slightly different pace to the band that preceded them. With synth sounds and killer hooks behind witty lyrics, their songs played on loop in my head hours after their set had ended.

So far removed from our understanding of the pop genre, the band are infectious on stage, so confident in their sound that, even if you don’t know their songs, you can still groove along to them. Finishing the night with probably the best song of the set, The Artiste, we were sad to see them go.

You can check out Gore Texas on Youtube and keep up to date with them via Instagram @goretexasband.

Check out Adam & Elvis via Facebook and their music is available on most streaming platforms, including Spotify and Soundcloud.
