Shock closure of popular Old Market pub
The team behind the Stag & Hounds have revealed that they will be handing the keys back to the popular Old Market live music venue in May.
Although not a lot has been given away regarding this unexpected turn of events, a mention of ‘the books’ being a key player suggest the decision is financially based.
Their statement reads as follows:
is needed now More than ever
“Hello all,
As a few of you already know the stag and hounds will be handed back by ourselves at the end of May. But we’re announcing it officially today so everyone is in the know. Through a series of events and circumstances (some out of our control) we have looked at the books and it’s not viable for us to carry on to see the contract out. Our final weekend will be the 26th, 27th and 28th May 2017. Thanks for all the help and support over the last 6 year. We’ve had a right laugh and we’ll be back in other forms and guises before you know it.
Love always
The Stag And Hounds Team”
Comments suggest Bristol will be sad to see this venue gone:
“End of an era, had some great nights here,a proper grass root music venue.
Often honoured by Bristol Jeff, I’ve enjoyed many an evening here as a punter and a drummer’s wife.Best job in the world and one of my favourite venues.”
“Thanks a lot guys for putting us on and for being a great venue supporting alternative acts”
With some already calling for a Crowdfunding solution, though most wish the team all the best for future ventures.
