Single Review: Self Control – Paper Dragon

By Amy Grace  Thursday Sep 3, 2020

Live shows seem like a distant memory right now however this hasn’t stopped artists from continuing with release schedules. Several have adapted to live streaming shows online and releasing material as planned, with each new release it leaves me lingering for when we are able to finally let loose when venues reopen.

‘Self Control’ is the final single ahead of Paper Dragon’s debut EP later this month

Paper Dragon’s fifth single ‘Self Control’ is an ode to “the power you hold within yourself when dealing with difficulties and differences within a relationship. It is about knowing who you are and when you can see someone is taking advantage!”.

Fronted by powerhouse vocalist Ruth Royall, Paper Dragon fuse EDM, drum and bass and house music to create an enigmatic atmosphere which will have you bouncing along. ‘Self Control’ begins with woozy organ chords which are then interrupted with thick uppercuts of horns, stabbing through the quick tempoed drum beat. Speaking on the track, Paper Dragon elaborate that “the track is made to engage the pop/dance crossover audience and prepares listeners for a slower pace of music into Autumn.”
