Team behind Glastonbury’s Shangri-La to open new venue in Bristol
A well-known area of Glastonbury Festival is being transported into a new arts centre and bar in Bristol.
Lost Horizon from the team behind Shangri-La promises to be “a creative playground for the ever-growing Shangri-La family to showcase art, live music and performance throughout the summer”.
The team envisage Lost Horizon becoming “a platform for world class digital and visual art, performance, protest, free speech, and ground-breaking ideas, alongside a diverse, mixed musical programme crossing continents, genres and musical boundaries”.
is needed now More than ever
Acts already confirmed for the venue’s two opening weekends include Beans on Toast, Bitch, Please!, China Bowls and The Nextmen.
Art will also be showcased in the venue beginning with a special collaboration of five unique pieces from Dan Hillier and Carl Cashman.
There will be an outdoor street art gallery and new exhibitions will be added fortnightly to the indoor space.
Lost Horizon will be opening on July 1 in a warehouse at 1-3 Elton Street in St Jude’s, close to Wogan Coffee.
With the cancellation of Glastonbury for the last two years, Lost Horizon was originally launched as a virtual reality venue – welcoming more than 4.3m people at the debut Lost Horizon Festival in July 2020 – with a mini VR hub due to be located within the Bristol real-life venue.
Lost Horizon and Shangri-La director, Robin Collings, said: “It’s been a long year but it’s time to get back to reality.
“I can’t quite believe it but we are opening our own venue and it’s going to be crazy. The energy, art and music of Shangri-La and the digital creativity and scope of Lost Horizon. And real live people!
“I actually cannot wait for those doors to open, to welcome you all into our new home.”
Kaye Dunnings, creative director at Lost Horizon and Shangri-La, added: “At last, a lifelong dream of ours is being realised; a creative headquarters where our culture and community can thrive year round and can be experienced by everyone!
“Inclusivity at our core, we will raise the bar with our new venture, forging collaborations and partnerships within the city and beyond on our ever evolving exploration into human connection.
“My vision for the space is to create a jumping off point for creatives of every kind in which we can break new ground, take risks and experiment together both IRL and virtually.”
