Venue of the Month: Dareshack

By Issy Packer  Wednesday May 31, 2023

Located on Wine St., Dareshack is a cafe, restaurant and music venue all located in one space.

The cafe and restaurant first opened in 2020 while the 200 capacity venue launched two years later in early 2022.

Dareshack has been building a reputation for presenting experimental and unique audiovisual shows.

One of their standout features is the installation of d&b 360 Soundscape, making it the first music and arts venue in the UK to have a permanent installation.

With twenty-two loudspeakers combined with state-of-the-art processing power, object-based mixing, and sophisticated room emulation, the creative possibilities are endless.

Since the installation, artists have been performing ‘in the round’, allowing them to engage with audiences in new and exciting ways.

Creators have also been experimenting with immersive experiences, using audio storytelling as never before. This innovative technology has opened up a whole new world of creative possibilities.

Since opening, the space has been part of Ritual Union and Dot To Dot Festival as well as hosting many gigs over the past year.

The non-profit multidisciplinary art platform inklingroom brought their first show to Bristol at Dareshack earlier this month, which featured a cutting-edge programme of DJ sets, including Principe Discos label affiliate Dj Narciso, Ifeoluwa and night residents, Wash Electra.

Dareshack also launched a new platform that allocates a percentage of coffee sales into creative projects from the local community.

Dareshack’s studio space represents a combined microcosmic desire to build, break and bend the rules of storytelling through music, video and visual arts.

A blank page, an opportunity for creation, and an invitation to collaboration in any shape or form: music, immersive experiences, talks, workshops, filming, photography, and everything in between.
