Venue of the Month: The Canteen
Opened in 2009, The Canteen was the first of three sites as part of The Assemblies group, including No.1 Harbourside and Old Market Assembly.
Opening as a cafe, bar, restaurant and (free) live music venue, this means that there is a quick turn around from a full dining room to a dancefloor.
“You don’t see it happen this way in many places, and it can be controlled chaos, but in the best way!” The team at The Canteen tell Bristol24/7.
is needed now More than ever
The bar and restuarant based in Stokes Croft have seen many artists perform on their stage, as well the occasional Tuesday night jam night welcoming different musicians to come together.
One such memorable performance was when Soufian Saihi joined Bristol Street Music on stage and one such band whose gone one to do big things since performing at The Canteen was The Comet is Coming.
Things have changed for the venue since the Covid-19 pandemic, including an all vegetarian menu and a refurbishment which included a quality new sound system.
“The music took a while to build back post Covid, but it feels back to normal now, with every night having a lovely atmosphere again, so long may it continue!” They tell us.
The venue have always operated as sustainably as possible, being members of the Sustainable Restaurant Association, as well as recently becoming accredited as being on the road to net zero.
