Venue of the Month: The Crown
The Crown is located in St Nick’s Market and was built in 1741.
It was built on the medieval Bristol Tolzey Court which had been a meeting place for Bristol’s merchants and had jurisdiction over a wide range of cases involving damage claims or disputed debts.
The pub was established not long after and has since held its site their for almost 300 years.
is needed now More than ever
It has had many uses over the years, but for the last 18 months it has been in the hands of The Mother’s Ruin, which is located around the corner from The Crown.
The team have put in lot of work, since taking it over, in turning the downstairs basement into a reputable venue.

The basement of The Crown can be accessed via a door next to the pub and the subterranean level includes a bar, bathrooms and two separate rooms.
It has been the home to plenty of iconic live gigs, from hosting a stage at Dot to Dot to hosting packed out shows from Spectres, cumgirl8, SBK and more.
It has also found it’s place in the club scene over recent months, hosting everything from jungle nights (notably Brazen Records) to Hyperpop events (notably TooIll and MDM).
The weekly events ran by USB (open deck nights) have also picked up some traction, becoming a hot spot for up and coming DJs from all over Bristol.
