Zomby, Kode 9, Om Unit get Psyched
Psyched had a big year 2015, with bookings for everyone from Artful Dodger to Rustie, and if his first event of 2016 is anything to go by, main man Ben Cattell doesn’t look like running out of steam any time soon.
Psyched has always had a broad church approach, and January’s lineup might be its clearest expression yet. Headliner Zomby is a heavyweight talent who finds emotional truth in the detritus of hardcore, jungle and dubstep, while Hyperdub chief Kode 9 is one of UK club music’s great thinkers. While influenced by Chicago footwork Kode 9’s recent album Nowhere leans more towards introspection than block party celebration, but while both he and Zomby are ‘serious’ artists, they’re more than capable of setting the DJ booth alight.
is needed now More than ever
Then there’s Om Unit, currently signed to Metalheadz and making some of the best drum & bass we’ve heard in a while. With backup from Radikal Guru and Tokyo Sound, Pysched’s first outing of the year should be a welcome demonstration of the UK scene’s strength in depth.
Psyched is at The Black Swan on Friday, January 22. For more information see the Facebook event.
