The acclaimed Tongue Fu bring Hot Poets to St George’s
What happens when you put a bunch of artists on stage together who have never met, and ask them to perform live?
This question is set to be answered in style at St George’s Bristol on Thursday March 31 as the acclaimed spoken word and music show, Tongue Fu, throws its hat into an already talent-rich Lyra Poetry Festival line-up.
Tongue Fu has for over a decade been one of the UK’s most celebrated poetic acts. The troupe of musicians is led by poet, musician and founder Chris Redmond – whose credits include BBC Radio 1 and Sky Arts.
is needed now More than ever
Presented by Raise The Bar, the brand-new show – entitled Hot Poets – partners spoken word artists with scientists, NGOs and change-makers in the fight against climate change.
Fusing spoken word, genre-hopping improvised music, film, and science, Hot Poets aims to help change the ‘doom narrative’ around climate change and shine light on the amazing work being done around the world.
The event will feature performances from Zena Edwards, Yomi Sode, Matt Harvey, Chris Redmond and Liv Torc – all of whom will be accompanied by the famed Tongue Fu musicians, whose credits include playing for acts such as Massive Attack and Jamie Cullum.
Tongue Fu have played the Roundhouse, Glastonbury, Edinburgh Festival, Dublin, Capetown, Rio and a residency at Romania’s Jazz TM festival, with features on Sky Arts and BBC R2’s Arts show with Jonathon Ross. Previous collaborators include Kae Tempest, Irvine Welsh, Akala, Nick Mulvey, Salena Godden, Ty, Lemn Sissay and Hollie McNish.
