Bristol Old Vic’s Weston Studio reopens
Dr Edson Burton and Ruth Ramsay from Bristol-based theatre makers Dip and Fall Back were widely praised for their 2019 show Anansi and the Grand Prize – a vibrant reimagining of the West African character Anansi, who often takes the shape of a spider.
From December 17-31, the company are back with Anansi’s Big Big Adventure, a co-production with Bristol Old Vic, written by Burton and diected by Lionelle Nsarhaza.
They are now in rehearsals for the show, which was made specifically for 4-7 yr olds, and has been chosen to relaunch the theatre’s Weston Studio.

The mischievous Anansi the Spider spots a great shiny disc in the forest near his home. Curious, and telling his six children he will only be a minute, he walks to the forest edge to find out what it could be. But they’re too busy arguing to notice he’s gone. And the disc seems to move further into the trees – where panthers, snakes and wild animals lurk…
Anansi is lost. The disc is nowhere to be seen and danger is drawing near. Can his children work together, using their unique special powers, to find their father before it’s too late?
Anansi’s Big Big Adventure will be a rich blend of story, puppetry, music and dance, with actors Winston Pyke as Anansi, Nadia Williams as Tacoma, and Kerry-Ann Waison as Tosin.
