Cult improvised soap ‘Closer Each Day’ launches first ever Patreon ahead of Autumn season
Now into a record 13th year, the phenomenon that is Closer Each Day, Bristol’s homegrown improvised soap opera, is on the cusp of a new season.
Opening on September 16, the show will run on alternate Mondays at The Wardrobe Theatre until Christmas.
Closer Each Day is now the world’s longest improvised story, and although it has garnered a loyal following over the years, the company works hard to ensure that those new to the show not only follow the action, but have a fantastically enjoyable time along the way – and hopefully, come back for more.
is needed now More than ever
We can’t compete with the gloss of Netflix,” reflects company co-director Lindsey Garwood, “but we are not trying to. We have characters and plots that are binge-worthy and comedy which is addictive.”
Alongside the new season, Closer Each Day has announced a brand-new Patreon in order to support the continued development of the cast, as well as offering filmed episodes to those that want to catch up, and to develop a wider audience beyond those who are able to attend in person.
“It has always been a shame that this incredible show is not that well-known outside of Bristol,” Garwood admits. “That’s set to change, get ready world – Bristol’s phenomenon is coming at you!”
Beyond the stage, the company will also be continuing to host a programme of improvisation masterclasses, set to be announced soon.
And plans are already afoot for a special event to mark the 250th episode, early in 2025.
“There is no show like Closer Each Day out there,” says Garwood. “It truly is a product of Bristol – as vibrant and vital as its home city.”
