Gurt Haunted: the show in which ‘Most Haunted Live meets This Country’
Originating at a series of work-in-progress nights in 2022, the paranormal parody Gurt Haunted was subsequently developed by its cast of three local actors: Casey Lloyd, Toby Robertshaw and Benj Foster.
Part devised, part improvised, this “fully Bristolian comedy thriller” is categorised by the trio as Most Haunted Live meets This Country.
First performed in full in its home city in December 2023, the show now gets a six-night run, opening at Bristol Old Vic’s Weston Studio on October 21.
is needed now More than ever
Known worldwide for its historic landmarks, eerie pubs and disappearing bus services, Bristol is the paranormal hotspot of the South West,” from the SS Great Britain… to Asda in Bemmie. You can’t escape it. Bristol is haunted… Gurt Haunted.
Through the show’s 75-minute runtime, Lloyd, Robertshaw and Foster will bring to the stage an unlikely cast of spiritualists, mediums and ostensibly ‘professional investigators’ – from the host, Anthony Chestnut, to the ghost-hunting Sir Francis Hailbop, and local historian Arthur Goodun.
“Undoubtedly,” they claim, you will be left mulling the question: “Am I a true believer… or have I just had one too many ciders?”
Gurt Haunted is at the Weston Studio, Bristol Old Vic on October 21-26 at 8pm. Tickets are available at www.bristololdvic.org.uk.
