Fourth Monkey Actor Training Company are bringing professional vocational actor training to Bristol from September 2021 at a new Fourth Monkey Regional Centre of Excellence.
The London-based company will be working with The Actors’ Workshop and Screenology, with regional practitioners and facilitators recruited to deliver the school’s CertHE Acting & Theatre Making course.

The campus will initially be based at the Screenology, with the university overseeing the course’s day-to-day training.
Fourth Monkey was founded in 2010 and the creation of a Fourth Monkey Bristol Campus marks the first time the school have taken their courses outside of London and is “part of an ongoing commitment by Fourth Monkey to make drama school training increasingly accessible and inclusive”.
Intended for those at the start of their creative journey, the CertHE Acting & Theatre Making, accredited by Falmouth University, is a full-time, one-year course primarily aimed at post-A Level or equivalent students who are looking to build their artistic foundations and take the next steps into further training.

“At the heart of our ethos is the belief that drama school training should be open to everyone who wishes to participate,” says Charleen Qwaye, Fourth Monkey’s director of training.
“As the school continues to evolve, we remain committed to exploring new relationships with likeminded collaborators to help us stay true to this belief and honour our dedication to genuinely achieve full access and inclusion within the creative arts.”
Students, who have to audition for a place at the school, will be able to access Student Finance to pay course fees and will graduate having gained a foundational level four qualification.
Day-to-day training at Fourth Monkey’s Bristol Regional Centre of Excellence will initially take place at Screenology while the school establish a long-term base for their regional training in the South West, which will become the permanent Monkey House Bristol.
Free auditions for Fourth Monkey’s 2021 intake are now open and auditions for the CertHE cpurse at Fourth Monkey’s Bristol Regional Centre of Excellence will start on May 22.
Qwaye says: “I’m delighted that the next step in this journey will be to provide a Regional Centre of Excellence as we deliver our CertHE Acting & Theatre Making course to the next generation of talented young creatives in Bristol and the surrounding areas at our Fourth Monkey Bristol campus.”
