Outside theatre show explores Bristol’s history at Ashton Court Mansion

By Mercedes White  Tuesday Jun 22, 2021

Ashton Court Mansion is becoming the set for theatre company Show of Strength’s show. Audiences will be taken through Bristol’s history during the production The Mansion Through Time: At Home with the Smyths.

Tickets are on sale now for this seven-actor show, taking place from Friday 25th – Sunday 27th June 2021.

“Eastenders has the Mitchells, Bristol had the Smyths. Join us on a journey and meet the dynast that gave us Ashton Court Mansion. Imposters, buried treasure, a lost ring and it’s even better than a soap opera because it really happened.”

With support from Arts Council England, Show of Strength will be engaging audiences in stories from the 16th – 20th centuries, highlighting Bristol’s history and offering a family-friendly experience.

“Ashton Court is one of Britain’s best loved parks, but the history of the family is a hidden gem that very few people know,” Sheila Hannon, Show of Strength’s Creative Producer says.

“With a hugely increased interest in family history over lockdown, The Mansion Through Time will explore the stories, trials and tribulations of one truly remarkable Bristolian family.”

With natural social distancing put in place, audiences can enjoy a safe day travelling the grounds. Show of Strength are inviting the public to bring their own picnic to have before or after the show.
