New Cary Grant audio drama charts the actor’s experimentation with LSD
A Horfield-born actor-turned Hollywood legend, Cary Grant is undoubtedly considered one of Bristol’s greatest exports; his life is being explored in new four-part TV drama Archie, currently airing on ITV.
Now, a new audio drama has been released by AUK Studios, interpreting a lesser known part of the star’s personal story.
Cary On is a dualogue starring Wink Taylor (as Grant), and Barnaby Eaton-Jones, exploring the actor’s struggles with fame and identity, as well as his experimentation with LSD to quell anxiety.

The story opens in 1958, a period in which Grant has found worldwide acclaim, but his personal and marital life is beset by problems.
“If he’s honest, the biggest problem is that he doesn’t have the slightest clue who he really is,” say the programme notes. “He just knows he’s not Hollywood’s Cary Grant. But he also knows he’s not Archie Leach either, his birth name in Bristol, England. What can he do about that?”
Writer Kenton Hall found a universality in the star’s search for meaning and identity. “Cary Grant has always struck me as a wounded soul, in search of something,” he reflects. “For me, that’s what Cary On is really about.”
