Bristol Harbour Festival 2017 highlights: Music
Bristol Harbour Festival returns this weekend for its 46th year and, as always, promises to be a lively collection of activities, music, markets and exhibitions.
Every day this week, Bristol24/7 will focus on a different aspect of the celebrations in order to share some of the highlights and not-to-be-missed moments of one of the city’s finest family-friendly events.
As you would expect, the music programme throughout the course of the Harbour Festival weekend is packed with a fantastic line-up that ensures there is something to suit all tastes.
is needed now More than ever
To mark Colston Hall‘s 150th anniversary, there will be a special performance which will take place outdoors in the Lloyd’s Amphitheatre. The 20-piece Outlook Orchestra will present a 100-minute live party mix, playing some of the biggest dancefloor classics from around the world and featuring Roots Manuva and other special guests.
Once again, Thekla is behind some of the programming, and will offer music lovers not one but two stages this year: The Dockside and the Cargo Hold. Listen to a range of acoustic, indie, rock, folk and melancholic pop outside on The Dockside stage, before heading below deck (over 14s only) to experience independent songwriters, grunge and funk.
One of Bristol’s other popular music venue vessels, Grain Barge, will also be hosting a variety of musical acts at the Hotwells end of the harbour. Hop aboard to take in the sounds of modern country, chamber rock and skiffle-punk, with live music continuing in the Hold Bar until 11.30pm. There will also be an outside bar, street food and activities for children to enjoy.
The city will be alive with music, with musical stages dotted all around the harbour, from local talent on Cascade Steps, jazz near Redcliffe Caves, BBC Radio Bristol at the ss Great Britain and young people from Bristol Plays Music on Welshback.
The main Amphitheatre Stage will play host to the weekend’s biggest names, including Roots Manuva, Dawn Penn, Loyle Carner, Tanya Lacey and much more across the weekend.
