Preview: Forwards Festival

Team Love, the specialist company behind Love Saves the Day, are the founders of a new two-day festival which boasts an incredible lineup.

Performing on September 3 will be London rapper Kojey Radical, jazz and electronic artist Ishmael Ensemble & Friends, international pop-star Charli XCX (pictured above), Mercury Prize nominee Little Simz, among others. Headlining the first day will be DJ, producer and member of The XX, Jamie XX.

The following day on the Downs will see the Chemical Brothers headlining the festival with Roisin Murphy, Sleaford Mods, Self Esteem, Kae Tempest and many others.

For those who want more than just music, the festival will be hosting a number of panels and talks throughout the weekend.

As a way of establishing itself as “more than just muisc”, non-binary artist Travis Alabanza will be in in conversation with Shon Faye, Bristol Drugs Project, Noods Levels and Bristol Transformed will be hosting panels on the Saturday.

Sunday will see football legend John Barnes interviewed by Lawrence Hoo, while writer and broadcaster Jay Rayner will be speaking with Jack Monroe about the food crisis.

Team Love’s Big Team CIC will also lead a discussion into how music festivals can be a force for change, inviting leading festival organisers to take to the stage to look at their plans for 2023 and beyond.

The team will be focusing on sustainability this year and pledging to measure the impact of its live events. There will also be Team Canteen CIC, a hospitality collective working to tackle food vulnerability, hosting a pop-up cafe at Forwards, as well as catering backstage for artists and crew.

The festival will be parterning with First Bus and together they will be running a shuttle bus service from Temple Meads and the city centre, with a return costing £4.30.
