Preview: Wellfest 2018
After its triumphant inaugural event last year, Wellfest returns to College Green on Friday, August 17.
Hosted by mental health charity OTR Bristol, the one-day festival promises free food, music, talks and other activities, including a debate featuring Bristol’s mayor Marvin Rees.
The event, which aims to boost young people’s self-esteem, is led and organised by a committee of young people, who have been working hard to bring Wellfest together.

Yoga workshops, football, and activities around well-being are just some of exciting things taking place on the day. There’ll also be drop-in sessions, providing advice and guidance around mental health and careers.
Wellfest takes place the day after A-level results day and, like last year, the theme is ‘When Life Gives You Lemons’, with the message being to enjoy life, rather than stress about exam results.
“Wellfest is a result of young people’s hard work and determination to host an important – yet fun – event,” says Liam McKinnon, OTR Bristol’s marketing, communications and digital manager.
“Young people are invited to come along, celebrate their successes over the year, and learn about good mental health and wellbeing from OTR and many of Bristol’s other youth organisations.”
Alongside stalls telling young people about OTR’s services and projects including stress management and self-care workshops The Resilience Lab and Project Zazi, a space for young people to discuss race, oppression, culture and identity, other organisations including The Prince’s Trust, Bristol Drugs Project, and the Creative Youth Network will be present to provide young people with advice, support and guidance.
Wellfest takes place on College Green from 11am-5pm on Friday, August 17 2018. Find out more about OTR Bristol’s services by visiting www.otrbristol.org.uk/what-we-do
