Bristol Light Festival 2024 to dazzle with global premiere of Studio McGuire’s ‘Ascendance’
Bristol Light Festival 2024 promises to be the most dazzling edition yet as it unveils the global premiere of a mesmerizing light artwork by renowned immersive and mixed reality artists, Studio McGuire. The festival, set to take place from February 2-11, will feature a spectacular array of light-based installations that are expected to illuminate the city and captivate the hearts of its visitors.
Studio McGuire, known for their collaborations with luxury brands like Dior, Barneys, and SAKS, is all set to premiere “Ascendance,” a cosmic work of art that explores the theme of loneliness. The installation features an isolated astronaut drifting alone in the vastness of space, creating a poignant and breathtaking visual spectacle. “Ascendance” will be projected in a celebrated Bristol location, yet to be revealed.
Atelier Sisu’s “Evanescent” is another captivating addition to the festival, offering an immersive experience that visualizes the transient beauty of bubbles. Designed by the award-winning Sydney-based art practice, this enchanting installation aims to connect audiences with their environment, encouraging viewers to consider the world as a delicate space.

“The Nectary,” a multi-sensory and immersive light artwork created by artist Alison Smith and Dr. Chris Hassall, takes visitors on a journey inside a giant flower. This art-science crossover highlights the importance of pollinating insects, promoting a deeper understanding of the delicate ecosystems we are part of.
Katherine Jewkes, Creative Director of Bristol Light Festival, expressed her excitement for the upcoming event, promising that it will be the biggest and brightest edition yet. The festival, founded by Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District (BID) and delivered in partnership with Redcliffe & Temple BID, aims to showcase the city’s creative industries and provide a boost to the local economy.
The Bristol Light Festival is a free event, and it’s expected to draw a large number of visitors from near and far who will also have the opportunity to explore the city’s vibrant dining, shopping, and entertainment options. Last year’s festival welcomed 250,000 people and led to an additional spend of £3.3 million in Bristol City Centre, making it a highly anticipated event in 2024.
