Colston Hall’s Bristol Takeover goes online
Colston Hall normally plays host to the Bristol Takeover, a one-day mini festival showcasing some of the city’s best new talent.
For the 2020 edition however, people and venues from across the city’s music scene have teamed up to stream the festival online.
The Bristol Takeover Online will take place on Saturday, May 23 from 3pm to midnight, streamed for free via YouTube.
is needed now More than ever
The digital festival will raise funds for Music Venue Trust’s Save Our Venues campaign.
Special guests will take part in partnership with some of the city’s well-loved grassroots venues, including the Louisiana, Exchange, Trinity, Crofters Rights, the Old England and more.

The lineup so far includes Adrian Utley from Portishead, artists from Saffron Records, Paper Dragon and Three Cane Whale.
The festival will be streamed for free, but organisers are asking viewers to donate what they would normally spend on a gig ticket to the festival’s Crowdfunder.
Money raised will be split between Music Venue Trust’s Save Our Venues campaign, which is supporting grassroots venues through the pandemic, and the festival’s participating artists.

“New talent is the lifeblood of our industry and without grassroots venues like the Louisiana and Exchange and many others, we wouldn’t see these new artists develop,” says Todd Wills, artistic director at Colston Hall.
“It’s an uncertain time for both venues and artists, so working together and with Music Venue Trust on their Save Our Venues campaign, we hope to raise the funds that will ensure we still have a vibrant live music scene to return to.”
Todd adds: “The Bristol Takeover is our annual event to spotlight the incredible music scene we’re fortunate enough to be a part of here in Bristol, and with the coronavirus outbreak we wanted to move it online to keep celebrating and supporting live music in our city.”
