Knowle West Fest returns for 2023

By Charlie Watts  Thursday Jul 27, 2023

A community festival is returning for what organisers say will be “another fun-packed day for everyone”.

This year’s Knowle West Fest will be held on Filwood Broadway and in Filwood Community Centre on Saturday, August 5, from 11am to 5pm.

The event will kick off with a community parade through the streets from The Park Centre to the Broadway.

Local schools and community organisations will be joined by Movema’s youth dance group Everybody Dance Now, accompanied by samba music from Bristol’s Afon Sistema.

Organiser Jasmine Loveys, public realm producer at Knowle West Media Centre, said: “This year we’ve gone bigger than ever before, taking over Filwood Broadway, closing the road to traffic to keep everyone safe!

“Our outdoor stage will showcase a variety of live music acts and you can dance your cares away at our micro silent day rave.

“There will be plenty of stalls to browse and pick up gifts or some treats for yourself and there’s a host of activities to suit everyone, from crafts and baking to photography and circus skills.”

The performers at this year’s festival include community ukulele club South Bristol Ukes, six-piece Americana band The March Hares and Knowle West pop sensation KALA CHNG.

The People Speak will also bring Talkaoke to the Broadway, an interactive live chat show that can be “topical, funny, deep, out there, or all of the above”.

Knowle West Fest celebrates local talent by bringing together the community in and around Knowle West, inviting people from Bristol and beyond to come and join the fun.

It is being delivered by Filwood Community Centre and Knowle West Media Centre, as one of the activities under the City Centre and High Streets Recovery and Renewal programme, funded by Bristol City Council and the West of England Combined Authority’s Love our High Streets project.

The festival organisers are still looking for volunteers to help out on the day, from running crazy golf to stewarding. Anyone who is interested should email jasmine.loveys@kwmc.org.uk
