Major Somerset music festival ‘no longer taking place’

By Betty Woolerton  Monday Jun 20, 2022

A major musical festival, set to return to Somerset’s fields for its 15th year, has been cancelled.

Farmfestival was supposed to take place in July, with a raft of acts from diverse musical genres promised.

But on Monday, organisers announced the two-day event in Bruton will not be going ahead – because they “have not yet sold enough tickets”.

Taking to social media, the Farmfest team said they were “devastated”.

They wrote: “Despite a hugely successful event last year, we have not yet sold enough tickets to make this year possible. Therefore in order to safeguard the future of Farmfest we have decided to delay until 3rd – 5th August 2023.

“We completely understand the challenges you are facing with the increased cost of living and uncertainty ahead. We appreciate that attending a festival may not be achievable this year but we have that when the economic dust settles in 2021 you can all join us once more to party on the farm!

The Farmfest team added: “After 15 years of Farmfest we’re not ready to give up on her just yet and we hope you aren’t either.”

A Twitter user replied: “This is so sad, lineup this year is class. Me and a group of mates were going to buy tickets this week and I’m sure others were in the same boat. Is it too late to reverse the decision!?”

Headlining 2022’s festival would have been Elder Island, Joy Orbison and Gentlemen’s Dub Club.

When the lineup was announced in March, Tim Manville, Farmfest festival director, said: “The last few years have taught us how fragile life can be and so we’re throwing everything we have at making Farmfest 2022 the best show ever.

“We would like to personally thank all those that have supported us over the years, especially in 2021, and tell you with some confidence that this year is not to be missed!”

Tickets will remain on sale for 2030’s festival when they promise they will be “back with a bang”.
