Help shape 50th anniversary of St Paul’s Carnival

By Aphra Evans  Thursday Jun 1, 2017

St Paul’s Carnival is inviting the community to a meeting on Friday, June 2 so local people can ask questions, contribute ideas and help shape the carnival’s 50th anniversary next year.

It will take place from 6pm to 9pm on Friday at the St Paul’s Community Sports Academy on Newfoundland Road.

St Paul’s Carnival Community Interest Company was founded in February of this year and hopes to secure a sustainable, financially viable future for the much-loved celebration.

The 2018 event is going ahead after short-term funding was secured from Bristol City Council and Arts Council England.

Following the news, the company appointed a new event manager, Naomi Davis, who is charged with kick starting the organisation’s community engagement and fundraising programme this year.

The organisation has emphasised that next year’s edition of the carnival will have a renewed focus on being inclusive, family friendly and safe.

Davis, who is Bristol born and bred, ran the carnival children’s area from 2010 to 2014 and has regular shows on Ujima and BBC Radio Bristol.
