Cafe with ‘a side of fiction’ opening in Clifton

By Mia Vines Booth  Thursday Mar 14, 2024

A new cafe serving coffee, food and really good books is due to open just off Whiteladies Road.

Emzi, previously the site of cafe Jozi, is sandwiched between Divino Deli and Alfie and Bella Pet Supplies, on Worrall Road.

New owner, Emily Tolhurst, has rebranded the cafe as a haven for book lovers, serving pastries and coffee from Extract Coffee Roasters, based in St Werburgh’s.

Speaking to Bristol24/7, she said: “I’ve always wanted to open up my own cosy bookshop cafe to provide a nice relaxing haven for everyone.”

The cafe’s window display, designed by Emily Juliet Stevens, is still visible from the outside, as well as the green tiled Victorian facade.

“Emzi is where we hope to combine the simple pleasures of good coffee and healthy eating with a side of fiction,” Emily added in an Instagram post.

Emily is planning a soft opening on Friday, but will officially open later on in March.
