Uniting Bristol’s 91 languages through food
Local social enterprise 91 Ways to Build a Global City, named after the 91 languages spoken in Bristol, has launched a crowdfunder to bring people from the city’s many different cultures together through the international language of food.
The campaign aims to raise a minimum of £20,000 over the next 60 days to expand 91 Ways to Build a Global City’s Peace Cafe pop-ups.
The Peace Cafes aim to bring together cultural groups that rarely come into contact with each other and have them share each other’s traditional dishes.

For example, 91 Ways to Build a Global City launched their first pop-up Peace Cafe in November, bringing together Iranians, Russians, Eritreans, Sudanese and Somalis from Refugee Women of Bristol to cook a varied meal and enjoy each others’ company.
As a result of the crowdfunding, the 91 Ways to Build a Global City hopes to bring Peace Cafe events to as many different communities across Bristol as possible.
The group hopes to reduce barriers between cultures, showcase local culinary talent and create a safe space for members of all lanugage groups.
