Rabbit Food – cafe review
Rabbit Food is a new plant-based cafe that is yet another reason to visit Old Market, one of Bristol’s most exciting areas for new food and drink discoveries.
Welcomed by a blooming massive monstera deliciosa plant, on a recent Saturday lunchtime Bonobo was playing on the stereo within this chilled, clean and minimalist cafe.
Owners Ele and Katie have transformed the space from a cosy and creative office into a Scandi-esque haven with a menu that compliments its interior; simple, but beautifully executed.

Taking the misconception of plant-based food in its stride, Rabbit Food’s menu is more than just pleasing to the eye.
A range of salad bowls are available for a very reasonable £6, with a zesty salad loaded with fluffy potatoes, zingy slaw, and a mustard and caper dressing tasting clean and fresh making sure you leave feeling pleasantly full.
If zing isn’t your thing then they also have a fiery, Mexican-inspired salad to warm your taste buds. Perfectly roasted sweet potato accompanied with fresh cherry tomatoes and a spicy quinoa mix forms the bulk of this warming dish.
The salad is complemented by a delicate, tomato pesto, topped with bold chilli flakes, creating a plethora of textures, flavours and colours that will bring a smile to your face and maybe a tear to your eye if you can’t handle the spice.
From the moment you enter, it’s clear that ethics are the beating heart of Rabbit Food.
The salads are perfectly paired with speciality coffee from Redemption Roasters, a social enterprise that allows young offenders to acquire new skills at Aylesbury Prison in Buckinghamshire, giving them a jump-start into life back on the outside. Not only that, the furniture here consists of upcycled school tables and a mismatch of recycled chairs.
Opposite Rabbit Food’s colourful salad bar is its partner in crime, Goods at 46, an independent shop that stocks lifestyle books, ceramics and all bits homely, that makes this new Old Market opening more than just a plant-based cafe.
With new menu treats appearing daily on the menu, it’s clear that Rabbit Food has a lot more to give.
And if ethical coffee, zingy potatoes or the independent lifestyle shop within this cafe aren’t enough to entice you inside, it’s also got one of the best people-watching windows in Bristol.
