Your Bristol Favourites: special occasion restaurants

By Meg Houghton-Gilmour  Wednesday May 25, 2022

We asked Bristol24/7 readers on Instagram for their recommendations for the best special occasion restaurant in Bristol.

These were the places that received the most love:

Little French
2 North View, Westbury Park, BS6 7QB

Little French serves quality, unpretentious French food by top chef Freddie Bird in the warm neighbourhood setting of Westbury Park. When you try the food, you’ll agree it’s no wonder that Little French was featured on the BBC programme ‘Remarkable Places to Eat’ with Fred Sirieix and Michel Roux Jr a couple of years ago.

Bulrush
21 Cotham Road South, Cotham, BS6 5TZ

Bulrush is one of Bristol’s three Michelin Star restaurants. It may look modest on the outside, but inside you can expect inventive and innovative cooking alongside immaculate service. With the open kitchen and the chefs occasionally serving dishes themselves, you’ll be enthralled by the atmosphere they create.

Adelina Yard
Queen’s Quay, Welsh Back, BS1 4SL

Adelina Yard serves modern, European food in a relaxed setting on Welsh Back. Olivia and Jamie are two of the most talented chefs in Bristol. Together they create an unforgettable dining experience. This is a serious treat; the tasting menu will inspire and keep you thoroughly entertained.

Wilsons

24 Chandos Road, Redland, BS6 6PF

Wilsons was recently recognised with a Michelin Green Star for their commitment to sustainability – a significant chunk of their produce is grown in their own market garden. You can expect exemplary service and a set menu with such creativity and flair that you’ll leave awe-struck and desperate to return.

Marmo
31 Baldwin Street, Bristol, BS1 1RG

If you’re a fan of fine Italian food and wines you will greatly enjoy Marmo.  Right in the heart of Bristol, Marmo’s food is guided by seasonal and local produce and their wines are all bio-dynamic or organic. The dishes are original and creative, each plate is an explosion of creativity and flavour.

Bravas
7 Cotham Hill, Redland, BS6 6LD
bravas.co.uk

Eating in Bravas feels like a celebration any day of the week and this cute cave of proper Spanish hospitality is widely known as some of the best tapas in Bristol. Don’t forget to order the fried aubergine with molasses – thank me later. If the harbourside is more convenient for you, check out their sister restaurant, Gambas.

Clifton Lido
Oakfield Place, Clifton, BS8 2BJ

The Lido has become almost as famous for it’s delicious food as it has for it’s swimming and spa, and it’s no surprise. You’ll struggle to find a more scenic spot to celebrate any occasion than overlooking the restored Victorian swimming pool.

Bianchis
1-3 York Road, Montpelier, BS6 5QB
bianchisrestaurant.co.uk

https://www.instagram.com/p/CdiKsDgsVwh/

You’ll be hard-pressed to decide what is better in Bianchis; the food or the service, as both are exquisite. This is Italian trattoria food at it’s finest in the gorgeous setting of what used to be Bells diner. Let them know in advance if it’s a special occasion you’re celebrating and Bianchis are sure to make it a night to remember.

Root
Unit 9, Cargo 1, Wapping Wharf, BS1 6WP
www.rootbristol.co.uk

https://www.instagram.com/p/CclAIQcMwZc/

Root is best described as a true celebration of vegetables. Although fish and meat do feature on the menu, the emphasis here is on seasonal, local, fresh vegetables. You’ll be glad the menu is made up of small plates, because you will want to try everything. Sit outside on a summer’s eve to soak up the harbourside atmosphere!

Caper and Cure
108A Stokes Croft, Cotham, BS1 3RU
www.caperandcure.co.uk

https://www.instagram.com/p/CdxqY_JMomR/

Caper and Cure is the perfect spot for any occasion – they’re open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They’re also one of the few places on this list that serve a Sunday roast, which always earns extra points in my book. Check out their instagram and facebook for their upcoming events including wine tasting, comedy and music.
