New menu launched at The Milk Thistle

By Lowie Trevena  Thursday Feb 14, 2019

Named the sixth best bar in the UK in the Top 50 Cocktail Bars awards and shortlisted in both the Crumbs and Bristol Life Awards for Best Bar in the city, The Milk Thistle have punched above their weight again with a new menu of cocktails.

Last night, they released ‘Meet George’, which combined the talents of all the staff who work there. The drinks aim to tell stories of the colourful characters which visit the bar and the artwork that has been created alongside it imagines the personalities that visit The Milk Thistle on a day out in Bristol.

Sarah Offa-Jones, assistant manager, says: “Having studied narrative illustration at university, it was an amazing opportunity to bring my two passions together. We wanted to create something which was completely different to what our customers are used to, whilst still keeping it fun and unique.”

The menu is named after George, a looming taxidermy elk above the fireplace in The Parlour. The Parlour is also the room to find and try the new cocktail selection. The decedent bar is filled with staff showing their skills. The menu was a collaborative approach between all staff, with each team member creating a drink that they felt reflected The Milk Thistle.

Bar manager Alex Godfrey says: “We wanted to bring to life the characters which are so known and loved in the bar and make them as much as a part of the team as we are.”

Sipping on the Bristol Tea cocktail, served by staff who love the new menu, it’s easy to see why the bar is so highly acclaimed. There’s around half a dozen new drinks to try. The Rebel Genius is as good as the Bristol Tea cocktail, and it’s tempting to stay and try them all. They aren’t just tasty, though. Each drink is made with care and passion, from the delicately placed tomato on top of Taking the Pisco to the smoking piece of lavender on The Wickerman. To top it off, the menu is beautiful, to match the drinks.

With a new menu like ‘Meet George’, there’s no doubt that The Milk Thistle will keep going from strength to strength.
