Are there already too many restaurants and pubs in Fishponds?

By Hannah Massoudi  Saturday Jan 4, 2025

A new bar could replace a takeaway restaurant in Fishponds.

The plans include a seating area, office and a small kitchen. It’s unclear from the planning documents what sort of bar would open on the premises.

Responses to the planning application for the site opposite Lidl on Fishponds Road have so far been mixed.

One member of the public is objecting to the plans to the site as they claim there are too many restaurants and pubs in the area.

Writing to the council, they said: “There is already an excessive number of licensed eateries as well as pubs in Fishponds, to justify one of the magnitude proposed in this planning application.”

Another member of the public, however, is supporting the application.

They said: “I support the application given the need to reutilise existing buildings for business, especially those that have been closed a significant amount of time, and create jobs.”
