Award-winning Bristol restaurant to host unusual London pop-up
The Ethicurean has long been about “a sense of place”, and now the Wrington restaurant is swapping the Somerset countryside for one of the busiest roads in the UK.
From Saturday, The Ethicurean – seen earlier this year on Channel 4 show Hidden Restaurants – will become a pop-up on the roof of John Lewis on Oxford Street in London, remaining in place until Christmas Eve.
The seasonal pop-ups are part of John Lewis’ Gardening Society, which aims for visitors to be “transported to a setting reminiscent of a yuletide village green” where there will also be a resident rooftop pub, The Gardener’s Arms.

“We are really excited to launch our new exclusive menu at The Gardening Society this winter,” said Iain and Matthew Pennington, owners and chefs at the restaurant.
“We will be bringing a few of our favourite dishes from Bristol to London for the first time, including some iconic and hearty British classics which have been given a special Ethicurean twist.”
The menu includes Victorian scrambled eggs: lightly scrambled eggs, four choices of Welsh rarebit, tandoor spiced cauliflower, The Ethicurean Christmas pie with venison and Pipers Farm bacon pie, and a London take on their famous sticky toffee apple Cake with scrumped apples and Thames-imported spices and cinnamon cream.
