Bib Gourmand for Wapping Wharf restaurant
The owners of Box-E say they are thrilled to be recognised with a prestigious Bib Gourmand.
The pint-sized restaurant housed in a pair of converted shipping containers in Cargo, in Wapping Wharf, has been praised by Michelin Guide inspectors for its “earthy, flavour-packed dishes; served by a super-smiley team”.
It is one of 22 – and the only Bristol restaurant – to have been newly-awarded the prestigious title, which recognises the best ‘good quality, good value’ restaurants, in the soon-to-be-published 2020 guide.
Welcoming the announcement on Friday morning, Tessa Lidstone, co-owner of Box-E, said: “We are thrilled. Awards are far from everything but to be recognised for serving great food at good value means an awful lot to us.
“It’s been so lovely to have so many of our customers cheering us on this morning.”

There are 22 new Bib Gourmands in the 2020 Michelin Guide, bringing the total to 132. Root, another Cargo restaurant, has retained its Bib Gourmand.
Tare, also based in Wapping Wharf, is among the restaurants to have lost the title, along with Bell’s Diner in Montpelier, which has now closed.
Speaking about the awards, Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guides, said: “Bib Gourmands are not just about value for money – the pricing must go hand-in-hand with quality cooking.
“In uncertain times, our readers are looking for ways to spend their money wisely and our Bib Gourmands promise a good meal at a great price.
“Our Michelin Bib Gourmand may be less famous than our Michelin Stars but this distinction has a big following among our readers. Chefs are proud to be able to offer great food at affordable prices and are striving to earn recognition for this.
“Our Michelin Inspectors are always on the lookout for new Bibs and have been excited to discover many hidden gems this year.”
