Bristol bakery named among nation’s finest

By Milan Perera  Thursday Jan 30, 2025

A Bristol bakery has been named among the best in the country.

Farro in St Paul’s has once again secured a place in the highly coveted Bakers’ Dozen, a prestigious list compiled by British Baker magazine.

Each year, the list highlights the top 13 artisan bakeries in Britain. The rankings are determined by more than 100 industry experts including artisan bakers, suppliers and consultants, who vote based on their areas of expertise.

Accolades and recognitions are no strangers to the Brunswick Square-based bakery (whose front door is on Bond Street) which regularly makes it onto notable lists.

These include the Times’ 49 Best Bakeries in Britain and the Financial Times’ Best 20 Bakeries shortlist.

Founded in 2019, Farro has quickly become a staple of the city’s food scene, renowned for its high-quality artisan bread and pastries.

British Baker says “the independent bakery and city mill has a focus on flavour and an eye for detail, serving up what it describes as seasonally delicious, well sourced bread and pastries alongside a well-made cup of coffee”.

“Freshly milled flour is at the core of its bread, with the bakery milling its own to preserve the full flavour, nutrition, and unique character of the crops it works with, which make soil health a priority.”

Farro was founded by Bradley Tapp as a market stall and still trade at the Whiteladies Road farmers market every weekend.

Currently on the hunt for a second home, the bakery takes pride in milling its own flour, using chemical-free grains sourced primarily from South West farmers.

No visit to Farro would be complete without trying their irresistibly flaky, buttery Viennoiserie or spiced buns while grabbing a house espresso made with beans roasted by Triple Co in Montpelier.

Having secured a spot on the Bakers’ Dozen list in 2024, Farro has successfully maintained its status as one of the nation’s sought-after destinations for baked goods.
