Achari is the recipient of two awards at the Bangladeshi Catering Association (BCA) Awards, held at the O2 Hotel in London on October 28.
The BCA, the umbrella organisation representing the interests of some 12,000 British Bangladeshi restaurants and takeaways across the UK, organised the event. Achari won two awards on the night: Best Restaurant in the South West and Best Chef Championship.
Achari, which boasts a three-decade legacy, was founded in 1992 and traded under its previous iteration, Indian Ocean.
Led by the award-winning chef Kamrul Islam, who began his culinary journey at Brunel College, Achari has become a popular culinary destination for university students and curry aficionados alike over the years.

Speaking to Bristol24/7, Kamrul said: “We’re honoured to receive this recognition, celebrating our commitment to bringing authentic Indian and Bangladeshi flavours to Bristol. This milestone is a tribute to the wonderful Bristol curry lovers who inspire us every day.
“Together, we’re keeping rich culinary traditions alive and thriving—and we can’t wait to share these flavours with even more of the UK!”
Located in the bustling commercial quarter of Cotham Hill, home to several acclaimed food and drink establishments such as Bravas, Corks, Panunzio’s Kitchen, Black Cumin, Magosteen, and Rock Salt, Achari has made its mark by offering a signature spin on traditional Indian and Bangladeshi dishes.

Kamrul explained that his love for curry stems from his experience of growing up in Bangladesh and India, which exposed him to a kaleidoscope of flavours and ingredients that inspired him to recreate at Achari.
