A new outdoor eating and drinking space will see a host of Bristol hospitality businesses come together to create a new kind of dining experience.
Breaking Bread will see Josh Eggleton, Team Love, Pasta Loco, Pasta Ripiena and the Pipe and Slippers create bring a socially distanced tipi village of dining on the Downs.
The tipi village will host two covered dining spaces, hosting 120 people in total, serving food from the Pony & Trap, Pasta Ripiena and Pasta Loco, and two pub café gardens from the Love Inn and the Pipe and Slippers.
is needed now More than ever
“This has been a challenging few months for the hospitality industry,” says Josh Eggleton.
“It isn’t just the bricks and mortar restaurants that have been affected; its chefs, kitchen staff, front of house and all the local producers that create amazing ingredients for us. The whole structure of the hospitality industry is at risk, one that locally is of real importance.”

Breaking Bread will create direct employment for up to 90 people and a portion of profits will be placed in a central fund, raising money for community organisations and initiatives in Bristol.
There are also plans for a board to be appointed, which will oversee employment and training opportunities at Breaking Bread, with a specific aim to help young people across the city.
Each venue at the tipi village will have 20 tables with adjustable dividers. Tables of between two and six will need to be booked in advance.
The tipi will begin construction on Saturday, July 25, creating jobs for those building the venues and running production, with the dining experience open on Friday, July 31.

“Breaking Bread will have a strong element of social enterprise running through it,” Josh adds. “Of course, we want to get people sitting down, eating and drinking in a safe space but we want to boost the industry, get supply chains moving and get people back into work.”
Sittings will be available for Thursday dinner, Friday and Saturday lunch and dinner and Sunday lunch. Reservations for Breaking Bread will be open from 5pm on Friday, July 24.
