Bristol pub earns national recognition from Michelin
A pub in Bristol has been added to the prestigious Michelin Guide, joining 15 others in the Bristol area.
The addition of The Blaise Inn, an entry point for venues who can go on to reach Michelin star-level, was announced on Wednesday.
Co-owner and head chef Louise McCrimmon has rejoiced at the news, telling Bristol24/7 their inclusion is encouraging after a tough few years.

About the accolade, Michelin’s website reads: “Situated in the suburbs, close to the famous folly of Blaise Castle, this simply decorated village inn serves good value, traditional British dishes cooked with a skilful, modern approach – make sure you save room for dessert!
“As well as quality ales and a well-chosen wine list, you’ll find a pleasant rear courtyard in which to enjoy them. Personable service completes the picture.”

McCrimmon, who was previously executive chef of Harvey Nichols for 12 years, is delighted at the recognition but remains focused on the food.
She said: “We’re just very, very pleased. It’s a really nice boost, it’s been a rubbish few years. It’s early days here so it’s just fantastic.
“I’m really thrilled for the team who have just got on board with us and have gone along with what my sometimes crazy ideas might be. But the simple idea is just to cook great food and have a great pub with lovely locals.”
On the menu is salmon, venison, roast skate wing and pork and gruyere schnitzel with prices for mains ranging from £14 to £18.
What does the Michelin guide mean?
Many of us know Michelin for their tyres rather than food, but the two are actually linked. When the Michelin brothers started selling tyres in the late 1800s, they also produced a little red guide filled with maps and places to stop, buy fuel and stay whilst travelling around France. The idea was that it would encourage early motorists further afield, thus increasing tyre sales.
As the guide’s restaurant section grew, the Michelin brothers recruited a team of mystery diners to visit and review restaurants, thus marking the beginning of the Michelin guide we know today.
There are different levels of recognition from Michelin. To be in the guide is the entry point for restaurants, to have a Michelin star is one of the highest accolades. Restaurants can collect up to three Michelin stars. A Michelin green star is a recognition of a restaurant dedicated to sustainability. A bib gourmand is sometimes awarded to restaurants producing excellent food at particularly affordable prices.
Bristol now has 15 restaurants in the Michelin guide. Two have a Michelin star, Casamia and Paco Tapas, and one, Wilsons, has a green star.
