Cafe by day, gigs by night
A couple from Warmley hope that their new mobile cafe in Spike Island is the first step towards opening their own music venue one day.
Lucy Atkins and Dan O’Donoghue have previously promoted live music at Bristol venues including the Crofters Rights, Mothers Ruin and Old England, and plan to reinvest a portion of the the profits from Imagine That Coffee into a monthly gig night at the Grain Barge.
Regulars at the cafe within a converted horse box on Hanover Place – close to Banksy’s Girl with a Pierced Eardrum mural – will be able to earn loyalty points towards free entry to the night once live music with crowds indoors is allowed to restart.

Lucy and Dan stop off at Warmley Bakery in the morning before opening the cafe to pick up pastries, with the coffee they serve roasted by Extract in St Werburgh’s.
In the future, the pair hope to make their own porridge, with porridge pots from Moma currently for sale. Other future plans include sandwiches and toasties, and the addition of picnic benches.
“We have had a great crowd of people so far,” Lucy told Bristol24/7 on only their second day of opening. “People have been so supportive, stopping for a chat to see what we are all about.”
