New cafe with a side of hot yoga opens in Finzels Reach

By Kate Wyver  Friday Jan 13, 2017

If you’re looking across the Floating Harbour as you walk in Castle Park, you might see some twinkling fairy lights across the water. These mark the home to Cafe Matariki and Pacific Yoga, the first two businesses to open within the new Finzels Reach development.

The name of the cafe refers to the Pleiades constellation, used as a guide for navigators of the South Pacific.

Breakfast is served here until 11am and offers toasted sweet potato bread, muesli or yoghurt and fruit, all £4 or under. A range of smoothies look inviting and their peppermint tea, like the calming atmosphere as a whole, is refreshing.

Lunch ranges from £4.50-£9.50, from vegetarian rolls to an English cheese board with fig jelly and roasted nuts, or an option of chermoula spiced salmon fillet.

The space couldn’t be much more hidden – for now – and the rise of yoga studios will mean they have a lot of competition.

Pacficic Yoga has two studios and a range of classes on everyday offering hot pilates, qi gong, yin yang, astranga and broga, which all focus on different sets of muscles and span a range of intensities.

A one-off class is £10 per hour, with range of different price packages for regulars.

Staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming whether or not you know your yin from your yang, and even if yoga isn’t your idea of relaxation, the cakes in the cafe are equally tempting.
