Cafe to open in historic former toilet block

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Aug 16, 2022

A popular cafe is moving from North Somerset to Bristol.

But their journey is only going to be across the Clifton Suspension Bridge from the Leigh Woods side to the Clifton side.

Chapter & Holmes are currently based out of a converted Piaggio Ape scooter but they will soon be opening a permanent space.

Their new home will be in a former toilet block that is almost 100 years old and is currently undergoing major refurbishment.

The cafe will be part of a building being converted so that as well as providing toilet facilities, it will also have a ‘learning annexe’ where visiting groups will be able to learn about the bridge and the Avon Gorge.

Built in the 1920s, the building is not listed but it lies within the Downs Conservation Area and was designed to blend into its location.
