Cocktails lift commuters’ spirit

By Lucy Bliszko  Monday Oct 17, 2016

Thirsty commuters got a special treat on a recent train from London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads, with two of Bristol’s finest cocktail makers serving up their creations from behind the bar of the buffet car.

Dan Walker and Will Garnett had teamed up with GWR to celebrate the arrival of Bristol Cocktail Week, which will see plenty of special events taking place across the city from October 17-23.

Much to the delight and surprise of weary Friday afternoon evening travellers, Dan and Will were offering samples of three new cocktails invented specifically for this journey and to kick start the week ahead of them.

The Great American Journey was a zingy mixture of Evan Williams aged bourbon, ginger beer, lime and spiced shrub.

This was followed by Brunel’s Western Promise, your correspondent’s favourite out of the three; a fresh mix of Mamont Vodka, rose lemonade and orange flower.

The third and final tipple was the Bristol Bound Railway consisting of Fifty Pounds Gin, grapefruit and Fino sherry.

If you enjoying imbibing fine spirits on the move, a highlight of Bristol Cocktail Week is a double decker bus ride with the history of Bristol being told through cocktails.
