Experienced team to transform former bank into bar and restaurant

By Martin Booth  Thursday Mar 12, 2020

The former head chef of The Ethicurean in Wrington will be behind the stoves when an old bank is transformed into a new bar and restaurant.

The Red Church is set to be opened on Church Road in Redfield this spring from the team behind pubs the Christmas Steps and Spotted Cow, and Bristol-based international music magazine, Crack.

What used to be Lloyds bank is currently being renovated – with a large open plan area for dining and drinking flanked by a seated mezzanine area.

Head chef Simon Miller promises a locally sourced menu, with beers from Bristol breweries on both keg an cask, and an extensive wine list.

Miller started his career washing dishes at the Michelin-starred Montague Arms in Hampshire before working as a chef, and later worked at Bordeaux Quay, became head chef at the Watershed, opened the Ashville pub in Bedminster and has most recently been at the Ethicurean for three years.

Tom Frost, co-founder of the Red Church and Crack, said: “We can’t wait to open the doors of the Red Church and look forward to welcoming all members of the local community and beyond into what will be a unique offer in the area.

“The vision for The Red Church has long been in the pipeline and we’re excited to show people the reimagining and renovation of this old bank building into a modern drinking and dining venue.”
