Historic pub set to reopen

By Karen Johnson  Sunday Oct 27, 2024

A historic pub is set to reopen under experienced new owners.

Chris McGuire, Al Roach and Tarik Graba have taken on the lease for the Ship Inn on Lower Park Row which has been closed since March 2023.

The trio are the new landlords taking on a spacious pub which in the past has been popular for a pre-gig pint ahead of a show at the nearby Bristol Beacon.

The Ship Inn’s new owners are turning it into a US-style ‘dive bar’

The new owners hope to offer a “similar style of pub and American dive bar” as their other pubs, the Vittoria on Whiteladies Road and the Barrelhouse on Gordon Road in Clifton close to the student union building.

Both do cocktails with the Barrelhouse also specialising in Detroit pizza.

“We have had an extensive refurb to give the Bristol institution some much-needed TLC,” the new owners told Bristol24/7.

Due to reopen on Wednesday, the Ship Inn – which dates back to the 1700s – will also have dart boards and a shuffleboard table as well as hosting live music.
