Husband-and-wife chef team win at Good Food Guide Awards

By Martin Booth  Thursday Feb 6, 2025

The husband-and-wife team behind two of Bristol’s best restaurants have picked up a prestigious award at the Good Food Guide Awards 2025.

Duncan Robertson and Kyu Jeong Jeon own Bokman on Nine Tree Hill off Stokes Croft and Dongnae on Chandos Road in Redland, each serving authentic Korean cuisine.

Duncan and Kyu said they were both “so incredibly happy and proud” to win the Chef to Watch award at the ceremony in London.

The pair, who met while working at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris, dedicated their gong to all of their guests since they first opened Bokman in 2019.

After the success of their first restaurant, Duncan and Kyu opened Dongnae which Bristol24/7 named as our best new opening of 2024.

“We’re so incredibly happy and proud to have received the ‘Chef to Watch’ award from @goodfoodguideuk last night!” Duncan and Kyu wrote on Instagram.

“It’s hard to believe Dongnae has been open for nearly four months – what a journey it’s been. This restaurant is built on joy, encouragement, and an incredible sense of community.

“And of course, Bokman, where it all began over five years ago – so much hard work, so many unforgettable moments and so much more to come.

“Serving authentic Korean dishes across two very different restaurants in Bristol is an honour.

“We’re truly grateful to our community, diners and all the friends who have supported us. Without you, none of this would be possible.

“This recognition means the world to us, and we dedicate it to all of you. Thank you. Bristol, you have our hearts.”
