By Bristol24/7  Monday Aug 7, 2017

One of the most exciting new restaurants to open in quite possibly the most exciting year for new restaurant openings in Bristol is coming to Stokes Croft from a team with a formidable food and drink pedigree.

Jamaica Street Stores will be opening in September in a former screen printers on the ground floor of Jamaica Street Studios.

Jamaica Street Stores is replacing Screen One which has moved to bigger premises on Merton Road in Horfield

The team behind the new restaurant are Charlie James, former head chef at River Cottage Cafe; Mitch Church, previously director at Bagel Boy; Lee Peacock, company director at CUPP Bubble Tea; Billy Trigg, previously head chef at The Ethicurean; and Alfie Allen, creative director at Crack magazine.

Promising to serve a selection of modern, produce-focused, innovative dishes and products that reflect the changing seasons, with a section of the menu dedicated to raw plates and 50 per cent of the menu consisting of plant based dishes.

“Animal welfare, sustainable farming practice, fairtrade, and environmental impact will be at the heart of what and how we create,” the team say.

“The West Country provides us with a wealth of sustainable, artisan produce to select from. And when we need to look further afield for the perfect ingredient for a dish, we will be scrutinising these goods with the same criteria, expecting 100 per cent traceability from all our suppliers.”

The team say that the process of moving into such a culturally important site “has been exciting and challenging in equal measure”, and have been working closely with the People’s Republic of Stokes Croft “to ensure we open something that compliments and contributes to the area’s unparalleled atmosphere”.

They add: “As a team, we have all grown up in and around the area. We know it and love it as a hub of local activity and a magnet for food-lovers and cultural enthusiasts from further afield.

“It’s an environment which is inspired our pursuit so – as locals – it’s one we want to celebrate and add to with this exciting new endeavour.”
