‘Last chance’ to save Cafe Kino

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Dec 11, 2024

The team behind Cafe Kino have launched a crowdfunder in a last-ditch effort to save the “vital space”.

The team who run the workers’ cooperative and vegan community cafe on Stokes Croft say they are currently “at a crossroads” and are hoping to raise £45,000 to “help to secure its future”.

“This is our last chance to save Cafe Kino,” said team member Lauren, who said that Cafe Kino “has been a cornerstone of Bristol’s alternative community for over 20 years”.

Lauren said: “If you’re familiar with Kino, you’ll know it’s much more than a place to eat; it’s a vibrant hub for creativity, activism and connection.

“However, like many small businesses, we’ve been struggling financially for a while, and now we need your support to keep our doors open.”

The crowdfunder has the goal of not only saving the cafe but also “reimagining it as a more dynamic venue for community events, workshops and gatherings”.

Lauren said: “By supporting this campaign, you’re not just helping to save a cafe, you’re standing up for Bristol’s independent spirit and resisting the tide of gentrification and homogenisation in our city.”
