Local artists and independent restaurants join forces for unique collaboration

By Betty Woolerton  Thursday May 4, 2023

Local artists have collaborated with some of the city’s top independent restaurants to showcase Bristol’s “thriving” food and art scene.

Upfest artists have created ten pieces of art and a city centre mural, all celebrating some of the city’s most-loved restaurants.

The mural has been painted on Wine Street by Silent Hobo, depicting a crowd made up of hospitality workers, diners and a Deliveroo driver in Bristol.

Featured in the artworks are restaurants Koh Thai, Biblos, Pizza Workshop, Dhamaka, Noa Sushi, Loki Poke, Nadu, Taka Taka, Cheung’s Vegan Kitchen and Oowee.

The mural and posters, which will later be dispersed throughout the city, were unveiled at an event at Dareshack on Thursday, with each restaurant offering a taste of their menus alongside the art.

Aiming to celebrate some of best of the city’s food and art scene, the project has been brought together by food delivery company Deliveroo.

“Bristol is a fiercely independent city with tasty independent restaurants and talented independent artists,” said Deliveroo UK & IE marketing director Caroline Harris.

“We wanted to bring the two together with this new campaign, which will see artworks celebrating ten of the city’s best independent restaurants, created by local artists, appear throughout Bristol.

“From a huge mural in the city centre to poster sites across Bristol, we want to illustrate the huge selection of independent restaurants available on Deliveroo, through the eyes of a set of show-stopping artists”.

Steve Hayles, founder of Upfest, added: “We’re really excited to be partnering with Deliveroo on this project.

“Street art and food are both integral parts of Bristol’s culture, and it’s great to see them come together in this way.”
