Loungers chain set to open their biggest Bristol bar

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Apr 10, 2024

One of Bristol’s biggest food and drink success stories could soon be opening their biggest bar yet in their home city.

What started as a single cafe-bar in a former opticians in Bedminster has over the last two decades grown into a national operation which now has 219 Lounges as well as 35 Cosy Clubs and three Brightside motorway diners.

From their headquarters on Baldwin Street, the Loungers team have traditionally focused on neighbourhoods for new Lounges, but now have their sights set on a prime dockside location in Bristol as they aim to open at least 400 more.

The proposed site is what is currently the soon-to-close Pitcher & Piano next to Pero’s Bridge, with a Loungers spokesperson confirming that they are in “advanced negotiations”.

The former wareshouse between V Shed and Za Za Bazaar is spread across two floors that will make it the largest Lounge in Bristol, if it is turned into a Lounge.

Lounge locations currently in the Bristol area are the original Lounge on North Street, Tinto on Gloucester Road, Porto on Fishponds Road, Grupo in Westbury-on-Trym, Barranco in Filton and Tesoro in Thornbury.

“We are in advanced negotiations regarding a site on Bristol’s harbourside and hope to open a Lounge there during the summer,” a Loungers spokesperson told Bristol World.

“We’re really proud of our Bristol heritage and hope that this location will allow us to welcome a new Lounge in our home city.

“Should we be successful in completing this deal, we look forward to the Bristol Pitcher & Piano team joining the Loungers family.”

The continued expansion comes as Justin Carter, the current Lounge brand managing director, has been promoted to group managing director overseeing Lounge, Cosy Club and Brightside; while Kate Eastwood, most recently operations director for Fullers, is the new Lounge managing director.
