Luxury hotel applies for 24-hour alcohol licence

By Martin Booth  Thursday Aug 22, 2024

Building work is continuing on a new five-star hotel in Bristol that is opening in spring 2025.

Originally due to open in late 2024, Hotel Gotham will occupy the historic Guildhall and former assize courts, Grade II*-listed premises built in the 1840s but with some Tudor and Jacobean interior features.

The 75-bedroom hotel will have its main entrance on Small Street but the building also faces onto Broad Street, with a new thoroughfare due to link the two roads in the heart of the Old City.

Hotel Tamarisk Limited have applied for a 24-hour alcohol licence for those staying at the hotel, which will include a rooftop terrace bar.

The Guildhall has been closed since 2010 and suffered a fire in 2020.

There is already a Hotel Gotham in Manchester with another also due to open in Newcastle.

Hotel Gotham’s website says “it is time for this grand old building to be brought back to life and contribute fully to Bristol’s visitor scene and nightlife”.
