Masterchef contestant’s pop-up has a permanent home
After his stint on Masterchef UK, this Bristol-born chef has set up a permanent premise to showcase his culinary flair.
Adam Ball who featured on the cooking reality show in 2024, will take up the kitchen at Kitchen By Kask to serve his signature fried chicken and waffles under the name of his already popular pop-up Frankie’s.
Ball’s love for cooking goes beyond the kitchen. For him, it’s a family affair.
is needed now More than ever
“The restaurant for me is all about family – getting families in and having my family there.
“So it is open two weeks in a month, and off two weeks in a month before family life is just everything for me.”

Frankie is a big fan of her dad’s fried chicken and waffles that will now be served at Frankie’s
Frankie’s was born out of Ball’s love for cooking fried chicken and waffles for his three-year-old daughter Frankie.
But at his bricks-and-mortar premise on North Street, the dedicated father and chef will be “designing some new flavours” that will be a twist on the traditional fried chicken and waffles.
Speaking to Bristol24/7, Ball added: “It’s like when you think of fried chicken and waffles you always think of similar sort of flavours. But I’m doing like a Thai green curry, red curry – all different types of flavours.
Apart from that Ball also has a variety of sides, including potatoes that he finely passes through a mandolin before pressing them with butter and garlic, and storing them in the fridge overnight. These are deep-fried the next day and served hot along with mains.

Ball credits his introduction to cooking to his late father, whom he recalled “would always cook things”.
He added: “He would cook us things, but he would always add like a little chocolate or coffee or something just to make that bit special.
“I always noticed that and everything I try and make, I always try to add that little bit of extra flavour.”
While Ball still enjoys cooking all sorts of things and doesn’t have any designated favourites, he admits he will never get bored of cooking fried chicken and waffles: “I never get bored – different flavours, different sides and the fact that Frankie loves making waffles with me.”

Adam Ball’s wife was impressed by his ability to add flavour to food when she first met him
Soon after he completed Masterchef, Frankie’s was born. Ball set up pop-ups across the city, starting at The Scrandit at Christmas Steps.
With food, customers will also have the choice to choose from a series of local beers and delightful wines specially chosen for the kitchen.
Doors to Frankie’s open on January 30, and Ball welcomes everyone to come and taste his creations.
